U.S. tax laws require review of the applicable year, transaction and supporting records. An Enrolled Agent (EA)—federally licensed by the IRS—helps individuals and businesses in Wesley Chapel, Tampa Bay, and across Florida interpret the rules, apply credits, and respond to IRS letters with confidence. At Henriquez Accounting & Tax Services we coordinate tax preparation & planning, IRS representation, and accounting & bookkeeping.

How an EA Helps You Navigate Tax Laws
- Interpretation: Translates the Code, regs, and IRS publications into practical steps.
- Eligibility checks: Verifies credits/deductions before you file.
- Documentation: Organizes records to support reported items and responses to IRS questions; records do not prevent an audit or guarantee its outcome.
- Representation: Answers notices, seeks penalty relief, and negotiates payment plans.
- Planning: Tunes withholdings/estimates and selects elections that benefit you.
Common Areas Where Tax Law Trips People Up
Business vs. Hobby
Business-versus-hobby status depends on the facts as a whole, not just separate accounts or a statement of profit intent. Review the IRS factors with your adviser before claiming losses.
Home Office & Vehicle
Home-office eligibility generally includes exclusive and regular qualifying business use. Vehicle deductions require business-use support; ordinary commuting generally is not deductible. Logs support substantiation but do not establish eligibility by themselves.
Basis & Loss Limits
Basis, at-risk, and passive loss: plan to legally use losses.
Credits & Adjustments
Assess credits under the rules for the applicable year, including eligibility, phaseouts, deadlines and any program expiration. Do not assume a prior-year energy incentive is still available.
S-Corp Reasonable Comp
Model salary vs. distributions and coordinate payroll to comply.
EA vs CPA: Which Do You Need?
An EA is a tax specialist with federal authority to represent you before the IRS nationwide. A CPA is state-licensed and required for attestation services (audits/reviews). Many clients use both. Learn the differences: EA vs CPA.

Tax Laws Frequently Asked Questions
Can an EA represent me before the IRS?
An enrolled agent has broad IRS representation rights for notices, audits and appeals, subject to appropriate taxpayer authorization for the matters and periods involved. These rights do not authorize court litigation.
How often should I do tax planning?
Agree on review dates based on your tax year, income changes and filing/payment obligations. Planning cannot guarantee a particular result or prevent penalties.
Do you help with amendments and old notices?
Discuss the original filing, proposed correction and deadlines with our office. The procedure depends on the return: some partnerships require an administrative adjustment request rather than an amended return. See IRS BBA partnership guidance. Notice assistance and penalty-relief requests require separate scope and appropriate authorization.
Do you work remotely outside Tampa Bay?
Yes. We serve clients across Florida with secure portals, e-sign, and e-file.
